Banks May Collect Taxes And Invest County Bond Money

Local bankers and County Commissioners discussed using banks to collect county taxes and the county’s six million dollar bond issue. Banks would invest up to five million for 12 to 18 months while sharing tax collection duties with the county treasurer. Interest arrangements and notice periods were debated, with the May 1 availability of funds noted and a proposed tax collection plan requiring monthly or per-bill fees by banks.

Bounty on Foxes Not Likely in Frederick County

Rhoderick Heads Mental Health Fund Campaign

Joseph F. Rhoderick, noted Frederick businessman, chairs the annual spring drive for the National Association for Mental Health. The May campaign, Mental Health Month, targets at least $6,000 with Bell Ringing Day on May 12. The drive offices are at 22 South Market Street under Mrs. Gordon L. Todd. Rhoderick, Williams Typewriter owner, has led civic groups including the Chamber of Commerce and local education boards. He and his wife live in Braddock Heights with three children.

Lack of Testimony Frees Local Youth

A Magisterial court acquitted Wayne S. Brewer on the minor in possession charge after the arresting officer failed to prove age or alcohol involvement. Carroll Jay Wilcom pleaded guilty, fined 50 and costs, for being a minor with alcohol during a teenage dance at the South End Civic Association Building. Officer Charles K. Cashour testified to vodka being poured from a bottle into Brewer’s cup. prosecutors were absent.

Water Hearing Date Set For Myersville

First Historic Workshop in Frederick Focuses on Preservation

The Frederick County Historical Society along with The National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Maryland Historical Trust will host the first annual Historic Workshop on April 25 at Winchester Hall. MacArthur Honored In Public Armory Service

In New York a solemn public viewing followed a religious service at the 7th Regiment Armory. Dignitaries including Adlai Stevenson and Nelson Rockefeller attended as hundreds waited behind police barriers to honor General Douglas MacArthur who died after three major operations. Youth rally to discuss mass media advertising topics

About 100 youths from Washington Carroll and Frederick counties will attend the two day spring rally of the Youth Fellowship Western Maryland Regional Potomac Synod United Church of Christ hosted by Grace and Evangelical Reformed UCC churches. Speakers include Herman Ahrens Jr and Baltimore sportscaster Jack Dawson with events at both churches and registration Friday evening.
