Dr Robert J Huebner of near Ijamsville will receive the Bruce Memorial Award from the American College of Physicians in Atlantic City New Jersey. He will also deliver a lecture on viruses common colds and cancer. The award honors preventive medicine work and includes a bronze medal certificate and 250 dollar honorarium. Huebner heads the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases at NIH and is noted for viral epidemiology vaccine development and cancer virus research. He is a Cheviot Ohio native who trained at St Louis University and has worked at NIH in Bethesda since 1944. He and his wife and nine children reside at Hidden Hills Farm near Ijamsville.

An unmanned Project Gemini capsule flew into orbit aboard a Titan II rocket, marking a major milestone for the U S space program and boosting hopes that two Gemini astronauts may orbit together later this year. In New York City thousands braved rain to honor General of the Army Douglas MacArthur. His simple GI coffin was loaded onto a special train bound for Washington for funeral honors. The procession featured the caisson, muffled drums, and the Army band, with Cadet Harold Kindle carrying the flag. The pallbearers included 64 year old widow and son Arthur. West Point cadets joined the march as dignitaries and former Philippine ambassador Carlos P. Romulo attended.
