Lindell Trials Pitching Role for Yankees
Lindell, 32, will try out as a pitcher for the New York Yankees in an inter-squad game in St. Petersburg. Casey Stengel says the knuckleball Lindell developed may make him valuable as both a left fielder against right-handed pitching and a spot pitcher. Lindell’s five-year effort to master the knuckler and his wartime performance, including a 500 World Series batting mark, frame this bold experiment. A practice game between American Legion and Frederick Tailoring Company teams is set for 5:30 p.m. at Elm Street Junior High with candidates asked to report by game time.
