House Clears Frederick Fairgrounds Repair Plan
The Maryland House approved a 1 million plan to renovate Frederick Fairgrounds harness facilities by tearing down and rebuilding barns and adding about 1 percent new walls to raise capacity. Funds drawn from state racing reserves would fund improvements at Rosecroft and Laurel with a future goal of a standardbred training center in Frederick. Frederick Receives Tree City USA Award at Arbor Day
Frederick was honored with a Tree City USA award during Arbor Day at Frederick High School. Gary Molls of the Maryland State Forester presented the award from the National Arbor Day Foundation. Larry Johnson of Public Works presented three Community Commons awards to locals, including Mr and Mrs John Hanna for a Ginkgo tree and Frederick High School for a pin oak. A Wye Oak seedling was planted on campus. Alderman Bartgis praised the event and Frederick’s strong tree program budget of 42,630 supporting permits, a live Christmas tree program, leaf and Christmas tree collection, and ongoing tree donations.

Bloodmobile to Visit Linganore High School on Monday
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at Linganore High School 12013 Old Annapolis Road Monday April 6 for blood collection. Donors may register 9am to 2pm and may credit the donation to the school blood bank or to any group blood bank. All blood types needed. Eligible donors are those 15 or older in good health, or 17 to 66 if younger than 15 have at least 10 pounds. Previous donors should bring Red Cross donation records.
