Six seek retiring Fredrick County BoE seat
Six candidates appeared before the Democratic State Central Committee to fill the vacancy on the Frederick County Board of Education left by Mrs A Doty Remsberg after 10 years. The committee will forward a nominee to the governor by May 1. Republicans will also submit a candidate. Candidates Barbara Rickman Herbert Daugherty Ralph Brown Gail Bowerman Sterling Bollinger and Sheila Thompson spoke on backgrounds and education philosophy.

Third drunk driving charge nets three year sentence
A Mount Pleasant man, Eston Leo Lants Sr., 52, received a three year prison term after admitting a third drunken driving charge within six months. His lawyer urged VA hospital treatment for alcoholism, but the judge sent the case to the state system for hospitalization after noting the maximum sentence was imposed.
