Pacific College Opens Amid Large Enrollment and Improvements
The opening chapel marked the largest early enrollment in years as the campus unveiled summer upgrades including one hundred new desk arm chairs donated by the ladies auxiliary. New faculty members Kenworthy Mendenhall and Marshall were introduced alongside music from the faculty. President Pennington urged character and resolve, linking Agate Beach stories to student responsibility and courage to endure life’s polish. Some students have yet to arrive, but arrangements ensure work continued for all admitted.

Elwood Hanson born July 3 1842 Wayne County Indiana died September 19 1913 Portland Oregon. He married Mary Jones September 10 1863 New London Indiana she died September 1 1900. Ten children eight living and in 1908 he married Hattie Kimball who survives. A birth right Friends church member and ordained minister he preached the gospel. Funeral at Finley Undertaking Parlors Portland conducted by Rev PF Hinshaw with Homer L Cox. Interment at Friends cemetery last Monday. He is father to Alfred J Hanson Lewis Hanson of Portland and O M Hanson a Chehialem Mountain farmer now in British Columbia, and brothers Enos Hanson Mrs Ainer and Mrs David Martin.
