In Birmingham two enlisted men of the Sixty-ninth New York volunteers were killed and five injured when a Louisville and Nashville train derailed near here. The dead are Peter Farley of New York City and Frank Glennon, nephew of Colonel J. E. Duffy. The section wrecked after leaving Fernandina Florida at 1 PM yesterday was traveling at high speed to the new camp in Huntsville. The injured were treated at the infirmary.

SICKNESS IN THE ARMY EFFORTS TO HELP SOLDIERS
In Philadelphia Governor Hastings of Pennsylvania raised 5000 dollars in 80 minutes to equip a hospital train for Pennsylvania regiments at Chickamauga. The 18 hospital cars carried 211 Pennsylvania soldiers, 15 New Yorkers, one Ohio, and one Rhode Island soldier homeward to Pittsburgh. Hastings oversaw transport details by telegraph and personally assisted at Chickamauga despite officials’ protests. Fourteen too ill to leave were left at Red Cross hospital. In Missouri a barbecue poisoning at Morse Hill sickened 80+. doctors saved many, but over 20 remain seriously ill after possible contaminated meat.
