Ione Hill Vestal born October 18 1871 near Walnut Ridge Indiana lived there until 1893 then moved to Oregon. She married Frank E Vestal on February 11 1911 and died after a short marriage. A devout Christian and Friends church member she lived to help others guided by Whittier poem in her Bible.

Spelling Match and School Picnic Celebrate Unity District
The Unity School District No. 23 club held an old fashioned spelling match on May 16 with Emma Langworthy pronouncing words and Mrs Ella Taylor winning the crowd. After the spelling event a business meeting, musical and literary program followed, marking the year's close on May 23 with a picnic in Ecks Bros grove attended by about 100 patrons. The pupils presented their teacher a hand painted China chocolate set and a fountain pen amid school yells, and a ball game between married men concluded the day as attendees departed around 5:30 PM.

Dynamite Runaway Spooks Town Streets on Bridge and Main
A hundred pounds of dynamite rushed through the streets attached to a runaway horse pulling an open buggy last Thursday afternoon. John Dikoner owned the explosive bought at Ivie Payne & Son's and stored it in the buggy. The horse bolted, dodging autos, nearly overturning the buggy on the cement walk near the Toggery corner, then crossed the bridge before being stopped at the livery stable without injury.
