Prominent Bird Man Visits Newberg for Talk at College

The nationally known bird life advocate and secretary of the National Audubon Society spoke at Newberg college when visitors filled Wood-Mar Hall. Pearson, born in Illinois and educated at Guilford College, described his rise from humble beginnings to leading bird conservation efforts and a large annual endowment. He discovered a Newberg cousin in M. P. Elliott and planned a trip to Klamath Lake afterward.

Memorial Day Observance by W R C and G A R of Newberg

The W R C and G A R of Newberg will observe Memorial Day on Saturday May 29. They will meet at Odd Fellows Hall at 9 30 A M and proceed to the cemetery for exercises. Flowers will be strewn on the water in honor of those buried at sea. At 2 P M a program at Friends church will feature music and an address by Col Emmett Callahan of Portland. Fernwood Band donated its services. committee members are O E Britt Henry Pittman and Silas Hanson.

Joint Evangelistic Services Close at Friends Church

Evangelists Lescault and Isaacs lead special services ending with a joint Sunday morning service at Friends church. Due to a high school commencement, the closing gathering will be held in the morning after the Bible school session. Congregation will proceed en masse to Friends church for the closing.

College Visitors Attend and Sports Meet Summary

George Pettingill of N H S visited the college with County Superintendent Dun and Miss Smith. P C track team earned two points at Willamette University meet won by Pacific University. Tuesday featured a German chapel exam by Miss Lewis and classes. Closing Association meetings were led by the Seniors Thursday night. Friday hosts a reception for N H S and P A graduating classes at the girls gym. Saturday May 29 Christian Associations hold Senior class reception at Kanyon Hall. Final concert of the school of music set for Monday May 31 in Wood-Mar Hall.

Rose Festival Brings Color to Newberg Parade

Last Saturday in Newberg featured a rose day with light showers and a splendid show despite rainy weather. The morning parade highlighted babies and G A R veterans while the afternoon auto parade awarded Caldwell & Allan for Ford presence with 47 entries among 33 Fords. Awards listed include Caroline Testout and Druschki varieties with numerous winners across several categories.

Recital Monday May 31 in Wood Mar Hall

The college music department closes the school year with a piano violin and voice recital in Wood Mar Hall on Monday May 31. The new grand piano will be featured and the public may attend without admission.
