Additional Travel Allowance for Soldiers

The Director of Finance completes payment of the $60 bonus for about 1,400,000 claims and now settles additional travel pay under the 1919 act for enlisted men honorably discharged since November 11, 1918. War Department will settle claims for the 1 ½ cent per mile difference from discharge to entry and for bona fide home at discharge date when verifiable by affidavit.

Shiloh Post Grand Army of the Republic and Shiloh Woman's Relief Corps observe Memorial Day. By Rev. Dr. Pollard invitation they attend Baptist church services on Memorial Sunday May 26 at 11 a.m. The Post and Corps meet at 9 a.m. at their hall to proceed to the cemetery led by the Newberg Corner Band. Harry E Gordon Dies at 36 on Dixie Ranch Near Grants Pass

Harry E Gordon died of pneumonia at his Dixie ranch home near Grants Pass. The funeral was held Monday at 2:30 pm in Newberg at the W. W. Hollingsworth Co. chapel with Rev. F. C. Stannard officiating. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Gordon and survived by Emma Dorrance, a son John, and his parents.

Staples Trio Delights with Refined Concert Performance

The Staples family presented a refined concert featuring Pearl Staples with mature tone and expressive violin and cello pieces. Encores included Ave Maria and Saint Saens My Heart at Thy Sweet Voice while Nevin Day in Venice closed the program. Grace Miller read vividly and Mrs Staples accompanied on piano. A Morfray Musical Club reception followed at Mrs Babcock’s home with Punch and cake.
