Photographer Harry Maris Dies After Illness at 36
Harry Maris died Sunday at his Toppenish home after a two week illness from liver disease. A well known local photographer, he operated a studio in Toppenish and would have been 37 that September. He leaves his parents Mr. and Mrs. C Maris three sisters Mrs S M Calkins Mrs G W Hash and Mrs J Barbour and three brothers John Charles and Fred all of Toppenish. Funeral services were held Monday at the Christian Congregational church with interment in Elmwood cemetery in Toppenish Washington.

On a fair Wednesday in Newberg a May Day parade featured Lynn Ferguson’s car carrying Queen Theresa Boyd and maids Edna Forsyth and Frances Elliott. North Meridian to First Avenue hosted decorated machines and patriotic songs, with Judge Stephenson of Portland giving a speech. On campus crowning of Queen Theresa, May Pole, and flag drill preceded a ball game won by Fernwood. Red Cross profits surpassed 700 dollars, with over 500 from queen contest.
