The County Institute of the W C U will be held at the Christian Church on the 28th and 29th with evangelistic services Tuesday morning at 10 30 and a gold medal contest at 7 30. Wednesday features a 9 80 evangelistic service and 10 00 drill on Year Book and State Minutes led by Mrs Nettie Wallace.
At the Stannard residence on March 22 the wedding of Edith Gwendolen Stannard to Russell L Parker was celebrated before about sixty guests. The ceremony featured a ivy and daffodil decorated altar and a Mendelssohn wedding march. The bridal party included Vera Stannard as maid of honor, Virginia Montague as ring bearer, and Frank Miller as best man with Allice Christenson hosting the punch.
Mr and Mrs Parker of Turner announce their move to a new home on South College street and will be at home to friends after April 1. Also listed are Dr and Mrs Pemberton Salem Mrs G J Montgomery Portland and others with the Parker family.
The ceremony took place at high noon at 115 East Illinois Street with Rev. B. S. Hicks officiating. Relatives and a few friends attended. Hazel Houser sang with Blanche McNay accompanying. Mendelssohn’s wedding march sounded as the bridal party entered. The bride wore white crepe de chine and carried a rose and lily bouquet. Afterward the couple left for a brief auto trip, and plans include settling at Center Street corner. The bride is a winecine and the groom, assistant manager at Spanking Logging Company local office, have many friends who wish them happiness. Out of town guests included S. A. Houser, Miss Hazel Houser, La Vene Wess, E. S. Houser of Dallas, and Palmer Houser of Zillah Washington.
Local Maxwell agency claims the 1916 Maxwell features an advanced cone clutch designed to run in a bath of oil. The system eliminates grabbing and jerking with a smooth, self starting unit powered by submerged gears for long life and reliability.
Excerpts from letters dated October 22 aboard Katino Mari describe a four day Pacific typhoon, deck games after the storm, and Japan’s culture. November 20 in Ludhiana notes welcome arrival, language study, and five year commitment easing entry to hospital and school work.
The Old District School event, directed by the women's auxiliary to the college, showcases Newberg’s top talent with a cantata style program and surprises. General admission 25 cents, 35 cents for seats at Kienle’s. children 13 and under 15 cents.
Young People of the Christian church met to discuss leadership and tor our work. Lloyd R. Carrick state president spoke as several societies shared talks on leadership and a Baptist ladies quartet sang. Street services were planned for the first and third Sundays with piano courtesy from Kienle Bros.
At a Co-operative Growers' Association board meeting held last Saturday, directors debated steps to place the cannery business into a new phase. Concerns over control, financing, and future production were raised as the group outlined proposed actions.
The first public quarterly meeting of the associated charities will be held Monday evening March 27 at 8 o'clock in the Baptist church. A full report, constitution reading, plan of work, and business will be covered. A short program will follow. The Board of Administration meets at 7 p.m. in the Sunday School room.
Expert H F Keyes assists county agriculturist in farm record surveys to reveal weak points in farm organization. Over two weeks, 100 records will be collected detailing inventory receipts and disbursements for the last year to compute net returns after taxes depreciation and interest, with labor income as the profit measure.
The Sunshine Club of the W R C met at Mrs Wentz home to work on rugs and cushions for the Old Soldiers Home at Roseburg. A completed pillow was presented to John Ingle who was moving to Kansas to join a brother there. Press Cor.
F B Baughman traveled to Yakima Washington at the start of the week to inspect a prospective real estate deal but found the offer unsatisfactory.
The Southern Pacific releases a richly illustrated book titled Oregon Walnuts by C I Lewis of Oregon Agricultural College. It surveys walnut construction in the United States and notes imports of over thirty million pounds last year. Oregon hosts a quarter of young non-bearing walnut trees in the nation. On Friday evening March 31 at 8:00 the W C T U will hold a silver medal contest at the Chehalem Center school house. Admission is ten cents and a ten-cent lunch will be served afterward.
The soup kitchen operates smoothly serving an average of 170 bowls at noon. Mrs. Leavitt missed Monday and Tuesday, with Mrs. E. L. Evans stepping in. Miss Miller has kindly agreed to take the place.
The Cantatta The Brownie Band will be performed Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8, at the local venue. The event features a musical program likely to attract families and community members.
