H G Crocker and family hunt an answer to Portland city health orders requiring inside lymphatic glands in dressed hogs. A long round of advice from local farmers, shopkeepers, and a retired doctor ends with choosing Boyes market to secure compliant hogs.
Last Thursday the W C T U met at Mrs Sanders home. The Mobbers meeting led by Mrs Chapman was engaging. June 28 is Flower Mission Day with a city park gathering at 2 30 p m and a pitch style lunch at 6 p m. Members are urged to attend. Mrs Mary E C Scott Flower Mission Supt.
Teddy Fones of Carlton is the sole Yamhill county participant in a free two week summer short course at Oregon Agricultural College. Portland businessmen fund two weeks for winners in club work contests, with many entrants but few finish. Fones won last year’s state championship in vegetable growing and earns the Corvallis trip as a prize. M S Shrock County Agriculturist.
Elmer Costello admitted setting a timber fire in September 1915 on the Siskiyou National Forest in Southwestern Oregon. He pled guilty before Judge Bean in Portland and received thirty days in county jail with the court stressing the offense’s seriousness and the potential penalties of up to $5000 fine or two years’ imprisonment or both.
President Wilson calls up the National Guard for border protection as U S troops may be released for possible action in Mexico. Oregon Governor Withycombe orders a rapid mobilization at Clackamas as camps take on military airs while hopes for a bloodless settlement fade.
The Yamhill County Chautauqua runs July 4–10 in McMinnville. Season tickets rise about one third to 2.50 for adults, 1.50 for students, and 1.00 for children. Camping in City Park and near the Auditorium offered free. tents available. For details contact Earl A. Nott or Prof. F. H. Buchanan.
Bailey of Portland will follow up last Sunday’s lecture with a Sunday event at 3 o clock in Duncan's Hall on the timely topic Mediation to Effect World Peace. The speaker is described as able and entertaining and claims the talk offers the only solution to the distress of nations. All are invited, seats free, no collection.
West Chehalem plans a July 4 celebration at No 61 school house Oak Grove with a forenoon program basket picnic and an outdoor pavilion for dancing and music by Carter's orchestra. Also reports a June 18 wedding Ina Ridgway and Ed Montzingo and W C T U activities with medal contests and fundraising notes.
Mrs. Elizabeth Palmer preached on Sabbath Observance. A daughter named Alice Marguerite was born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ramsay on June 14. Goldie Hendrickson suffered a collar bone fracture from a barn accident. L Strait, after appendectomy, returned home. School election: Mary Johnson re elected director. W R Everest to replace S W Childers. Carrie Johnson elected clerk for a fourth year. Teachers ninth grade plan approved. Patrons organized a Mrs Lena Moorehouse press turnout.

Mrs Dr Benson mother of Mrs Calvin Wells Mrs S C Christie and Mrs Cora Diedericks attended the S D A camp meeting in Portland last week Dr Benson is in her 90th year and enjoyed two and three meetings daily Mrs Diedericks visited friends and saw sights including the Columbia Highway A five mile hike up Keewahnee canyon and down Multnomah canyon was undertaken a snow patch fifteen feet wide and several feet deep was crossed She notes the scenery is indescribable and suggests heavy shoes for the rough trail
