New Ford Project Begins Production
Henry Ford I helped light the first blast furnace at the Ford River Rouge Plant near Detroit as the huge complex starts operations. The site covers 200 acres with 12,000 workers and plans for five furnaces, aiming to turn iron ore directly into Ford parts with minimal processing. Ore and limestone will arrive by rail and water, with by products used to heat air for the process.
