Indiana Picnic Toasts Hoosier Heritage With Chicken Feast

A large Indiana picnic drew many Hoosiers to a park where fried chicken and cornucopia of dishes filled long tables. Deputy Dairy and Food Commissioner George Fullenwider praised the meal as safe and high quality as officers and guests heard talks on Indiana life and history.

Death of Hon F A Crawford in Dundee Oregon

After months of illness Hon F A Crawford died on August nineteenth. He was born January 1 1845 in Wheatland Oregon and served in the 1907 Oregon state legislature as Roads and Highways chair. Survived by three daughters and five siblings, funeral at the Dundee home conducted by Rev Jas D Corby. Interment in Dundee cemetery.

Teachers Meeting for Inexperienced Educators Opening August 31

Notice to teachers announces a four day meeting at the McMinnville courthouse from August 31 to September 4 1914. Sessions begin 10 a.m. on August 31 and 9 a.m. on subsequent days with S S Duncan superintendent and Ida Mae Smith supervisor outlining teaching methods and school management to assist first time instructors.

Oregon Building at San Francisco Exposition Completed

A San Francisco report notes the last giant log in the Oregon building colonnade at the Panama Pacific Exposition has been installed. The Parthenon replica uses fifty logs symbolizing Oregon forests, the final fir section weighing 23 tons. State motion pictures will document the event.

Daughter born to Mr and Mrs Wesley Boyes

A daughter was born on Monday evening to Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Boyes, adding a new member to their family.

D W Emmerson A Seventh Day Adventist Pioneer Passes

D W Emmerson born 1843 in New Brunswick moved to Minnesota 1854 then to Newberg Oregon 1899. He died September 17 at Portland Sanitarium aged 70. He joined the SDA faith 41 years ago and lived kindly as husband father and neighbor. Survived by his wife and one son with four siblings predeceased. Funeral held at the SDA church with Elder St John officiating.

City Council approves fire hose expansion and road rules

At an adjourned meeting Acting Mayor Huatzen presided. A requisition for 500 additional feet of hose for the fire department was approved. An ordinance regulating motor truck loads wheel sizes and engine weight on paved streets passed to protect pavement. A resolution for Third Street grading and gravelling from Main Street West to the O R C railroad right of way was adopted. Councilman Morris urged no sidewalks unless necessary.

The Star Theater Weekend Program Attracts Broad Comedy and Adventure

The Star Theater presents Friday and Saturday a double bill with The Brass Bowl from Louis Joseph Vance and a comedy Bunny's Scheme starring John Bunny and Flora Finch. A stormy sea scene titled French Naval Maneuvers in the English Channel is also shown. Coming Monday and Tuesday brings the seventh Perils of Pauline series along with Dolly of the Dailies and Doc Yak Artillery man.

From the office of J. D. Mickle the Dairy and Food Commissioner in Portland notes improved conditions in Newberg where most dairies are clean and well managed. A few sites still lack proper screening and sanitary practices. Consumers may aid by politely monitoring local dairies and reporting deficiencies. Markets and eateries in Newberg are reported well kept.
