Rural School Improvement Club Forms At Fernwood
A Fernwood meeting organized a Rural School Improvement Club to promote industrial school work and fair exhibits. Officers include President Mrs H C Ross and Vice President Miss Lucy Budd, with committees on agriculture sewing cooking floats and decorations. A similar club formed at Springbrook with officers Mrs F Carlisle and Mrs J H Rees and several committees. Both clubs plan local fairs September 19 and first meetings August 23.

Lawn Party Features Readers and Talent Night
Miss Mabel Miller hosted a lawn party at her corner Sherman and Edwards home on Friday August 8 with about 35 guests. Guests registered and shared verses or nursery rhymes. The highlight was The Week's Entertainment showing six evenings of guest talent followed by a reading from Mr. Dennis of Montana. County Convention Sets Yamhill WCTU Meeting in Newberg
The annual Woman's Christian Temperance Union convention for Yamhill county will meet at Friends church in Newberg Thursday and Friday. Ada Wallace Unruh of Portland will participate in a Thursday symposium and evening address. Edith Hill Booker will speak Friday afternoon after a two month Europe trip. A reception for delegates and friends is planned Thursday evening at Mrs. Frances Matthews’s home.

Fresh Air Kiddies Arrive Aid Town Hosts Orphans
Nineteen wan eyed city tots arrived on the 11 05 train Wednesday morning to spend ten days in the town. They were greeted by anxious women and placed with families, including a mother recently burned and disabled, and three siblings. The children, including three year old twins, come from homes affected by quarrels and poverty.

Last Thursday at the Imperial Hotel a reunion of the Wilson and Williams families, longtime friends across Alleghany Maryland and Bedford Pennsylvania, honored James W. Wilson visiting son A King Wilson of Portland. Mrs. Bell hosted a special dinner with covers for ten guests including Mary and Julia Wilson and Lavina and Eleanor Williams.

Yamhill prepares for a big Carnival and Stock Show on Friday September 19 with committees and business leaders pledging support. A large town meeting at K P Hall led to plans for floats from most businesses and lodges. The secretary seeks a Ladies Band and hopes to hire Astoria Girls Hose team for demonstrations and local girls for hose cart contests. They have not secured a flying machine.

Salem couple wed in Oregon country home ceremony
Walter Eugene Guyer of Salem and Esther Martha Wallen of Springbrook were married at the bride’s home near Newberg on August 3, 1913 with Rev. H. E. Pemberton officiating. Guyer works at Capital garage in Salem and prepares a home in Richmond addition. Wallen has taught for two years. About forty relatives attended as the couple left on the 4 o clock train for their new Salem home, showered with rice and old shoes.

Hotel Flett Opening Big Success In Yamhill
The Hotel Flett opening on Saturday drew about 150 attendees who enjoyed an excellent supper. The Yamhill band played music while Miss Freda Gist, Beryl Perkins, and Miss Famme performed. The new hotel features sixteen beds and well decorated rooms, with Dr. Flett using the second floor for a dental office and a ladies parlor.
