The Agricultural College at Corvallistron undertakes seed collection and distribution to help Oregon farmers obtain early maturing varieties for late spring planting. Western Oregon varieties include Red Fire wheat and Oregon Dent corn among others. farmers urged to report variety, quality, quantity and price by first mail. The event lists local participants and a community program with musical numbers and readings.

Very Successful Piano Recital at Presbyterian Church

A piano recital directed by Miss Jessie Britt drew a large audience at the Presbyterian church last Thursday night. Llewelyn Sanderman received special praise for his performance of the Rhapsodie Hongroise and Shepherds All and Maidens Fair. Miss Bertie Langton performed The Fauns. Other pupils performed as well.

Miss Lorena Terrell to Lead Springbrook Evangelistic Meetings

Miss Lorena Terrell will begin special evangelistic meetings at Springbrook Friday evening and last over Sunday. She is an experienced speaker with Miss Newton providing assistive music. Ethel Cowgill will lead Sunday evening with the theme Missionary Opportunities in Latin America from Isaiah 60:1-5. All are invited.

Young Peoples Union Contest Leaders and Meetings

The note reports Paul Elliots with 36 points and Grace Wilsons with 41 as leaders in the Young Peoples Union contest. It urges town-wide support, announces nightly prayer meetings at 7 20 in the M E church basement, and asks participants to join the choir for singing. The contest closes on the last Sunday night of the meetings.

Local Mooseheart Legion Honored in Portland Inauguration

Chehalem Chapter No 264 Women of Mooseheart Legion toured via special train to Portland on Monday evening. About forty Newberg members attended as the chapter was instituted in the city with Marie Evans and Jessie Boyes assisting and officiating. Officers include Lucy Littlefield Inez Dodge Mabel Ballard Leslie Avery Anna Kennedy Lelia Coyle Ella Livengood and Bessie Coyle. Initiation and election followed as the Portland Chapter closed and dispensation noted. City officials call for Saturday cleanup urging residents to rake and burn papers from parks and vacant lots.

The Supreme Court upheld the 1916 Chamberlain Ferris law forfeiting the Southern Pacific railroad title to 2.3 million acres in Oregon and Washington, with timber and minerals controlled by the government.
