Amos Nelson Dies After Lingering Illness At 69

Amos Nelson long time Chehalem Valley resident and former county commissioner died Tuesday night at his home near Newberg after a paralytic illness. He served as county commissioner 1892 to 1896 and was vice president of the First National Bank for years. Born June 6, 1848 on Fyen island Denmark he immigrated to the United States at 22 and lived in Iowa St Louis Nevada and Oregon before settling in Chehalem Valley in 1881. Funeral services Friday at 1 PM at W W Hollingsworth Co chapel conducted by Rev. F C Stannard.

Red Cross Queen of the May Vote Opens in Newberg

The May Day Red Cross contest invites candidates from schools clubs and individuals with a one cent vote fee. Votes are sold at three city drug stores with a 10 30 pm April 27 deadline. Daily tallies will be posted on the post office bulletin board as the community votes to support the war effort.

Newberg War Bride Weds in Nazarene Church Ceremony

Miss Zella M. Dimmock married Mr. Fred A. Williams at the First Church of the Nazarene in Newberg on April 14. The couple, joining the town’s second war bridal pair, received bystanders’ best wishes after a Mendelssohn ceremony and a reception. Mrs. Williams teaches in Newberg public schools. Williams serves in the 44th U. S. Infantry at Camp Lewis Tacoma. Guests came from Southern Oregon, Salem, and beyond.

Growers Meeting Set For Cannery Assembly Hall Saturday

Vegetable growers are invited to a Growers Meeting in Cannery Assembly Hall at 10 o clock Saturday. Prof Bouquet of O A C will discuss vegetable care for summer and fall markets. Mr Newmeyer of the Boys Working Reserve will outline help for harvesting and contracting for beans and corn. Light lunch at noon.

Lloyd Edwards Marries Stella Gayne at Grandparents’ Home

Lloyd Edwards, a Pacific College graduate and Vancouver shipyard electrician, wed Stella Gayne of Tillamook after a rapid ceremony at his grandparents’ Newberg home. The couple then traveled to Portland for a wedding dinner.
