Last Saturday afternoon Mrs. J. E. Whiton hosted a gathering of Miss Zella Dimmock’s friends at 215 South River Street. They brought gifts for the bride to be and prepared a “wonder book” for her upcoming marriage to Fred A Williams of the First Aid Hospital Corps now stationed at Camp Lewis Tacoma. Light refreshments were served.

A surprise shower followed at Ira Hutchens residence with forty friends giving useful household items for their Portland home. Mrs. Ida J. Wiley Dies at Rex Home
Mrs. Ida J. Wiley, born August 20 1863 in New Providence Iowa, died last Saturday at the Rex home of N L Wiley. She lived in Rex for decades with her husband two daughters Ruth Astleford and Halcyon and two sons Ross and Willard in the army at Camp Lewis. Funeral at the Friends church in Newberg conducted by Rev Elmer Pemberton drew many relatives and friends.

Thomas Edgar Hobson born January 23 1860 in Flordin Iowa moved with family to Jewel Kansas married Louisa M Daily November 17 1881 eleven children born. He settled in Newberg Oregon in 1890 living there until his death April 2 peacefully with his wife and eight of his children at his side. One son Clyde died six years ago and two children in Canada arrived too late for closure. He was a member of the Christian church in Newberg.

A Musical Treat by the Presbyterian Choir
Last Sunday the Presbyterian choir presented a sacred concert to a large audience at the church. Conductor Dr. Lee led the performance with notable numbers including The Home Land duet by Mrs. Chas. A. Morris and Mrs. Georgiana Babcock and Miss Florence Bassett solo. The anthem Hark Hark My Soul was praised. Miss Britt the accompanist earned high credit and the program featured beautiful but difficult pieces. The article hopes for more concerts in the future.
