Circuit Court Doings Under Judge Belt in McMinnville

In McMinnville Circuit Court on the 22nd Judge Belt moved to clear the docket. Cases heard included Lester Potter versus John Bilger and Sheriff Henderson over arena purchases now owned by Ranney with a decree in Bilger’s favor. Custody rulings favored Laughlin’s claim initially, then were contested. Holmes awarded custody to the father in 1914, with a new petition for modification following. Esther A. Cook sued William Sherman and W A Coughlan. testimony taken, decision reserved. Coughlan disputed forfeiture claims over lots in Cook's Park Addition. Littlefield and McGuire represented Cook, Kirks for defendants. C H Prack versus Sheridan Timber Company, personal injury suit. motion to strike part of the defense denied. case tried before Judge Holmes.

Court of the Universe Exposition in San Francisco

The grand central court at the Exposition dominates the scene with 188 foot arches symbolizing nations. The long docket includes divorce by desertion for George Kaufman, coal bill dispositions, judgments against C E Cook and F M Cook, and city street improvement cases before Judge Belt. Great Revival in Newberg Draws 211 Converts

A 27 day revival led by Pastor George C Ritchey attracted 211 converts and a Tuesday night offering of 20 to 25 dollars. Rev A F Ritchey from York sang and preached, with plans for a union revival with all Christians in the future. Easter sermon slated at Christian Tabernacle next Sunday.

Easter Services At Church and Cantata Tribute

Easter program details include a morning service with a Living Christ cantata by Irene and a large choir under Hall, no intermission, followed by an 8 oclock evening service with special numbers and a sermon. The notice also references Rev S H Upton leading a Saturday service and then an obituary style tribute for a long time resident of Newberg with family details.

Obituary of George M Graves Dies at 78 at Home

George M Graves died at his First Street home Thursday evening March 25 after a fifteen day illness. He was 78 years 11 months and 16 days old. The funeral was held at his home.

Shiloh W. R. C Holds Regular Meeting

Last Thursday Shiloh W. R. C held its regular meeting followed by a social hour with Shiloh Post members. Supper was served at five in the dining room led by the flag and drums from two ladies corps. Mrs Margaret Carpenter dies after long Oregon life

Mrs Margaret Jane Carpenter died at her Che Salem Center home on Tuesday March 30. Born September 26 1838 near Dayton Ohio she was 76 years 6 months 4 days old. She moved to Oregon 1879 living in Salem then Newberg where she resided. She leaves son Orville B. Westfall and grandson Harold Westfall. Funeral at her home Thursday at 2 pm and burial in Friends cemetery.
