Brother Slays Paul Ford and Ends His Own Life
In Manhattan at 37 East Seventy Seventh Street brothers Paul Leicester Ford, a noted novelist, and Malcolm Webster Ford, famed amateur athlete, killed each other with a revolver after a fatal confrontation. Jealousy over literary success and financial troubles spurred the tragedy. Malcolm then shot himself. Elizabeth R. Hall witnessed the scene. Paul lay slain at his desk and Malcolm died in the library. Funeral planned for both from Seventy Seventh Street home.

Strikers Clash With Deputies at Lodi Mills

Policeman Is Dragged by Runaway Horse in Cathedral Rush
Police officer Patrick J. Rodgers halted a runaway wagon horse outside the Cathedral while thousands watched Archbishop Corrigan’s last view. Dragged by the reins, he saved a group of Catholic children but was struck when the wheels passed over him. Rodgers suffered multiple injuries including broken ribs and a fractured kneecap, with Dr. Eltinge treating him at Flower Hospital. The wagon driver, Harry Dreger, was located nearby and gave his statement.
