Gov Hughes urges immediate constitutional reapportionment before adjournment as Assembly Speaker Wadsworth faces waning support. Senate backs the Tully measure with Republican opposition brewing in the Assembly, while Raines and Tully lead the Senate in approval.
Albany June 24. Under an emergency Governor message the Assembly passed the Prentice bill to extend filing and petition circulation times for primaries and elections. The measure addresses apportionment changes and may revert district lines to 1804 conventions or to a new act. The bill, pushed swiftly, moved from Rules to second and third reading and passed between 8:30 and 9:50 p m.
Two National banks are forming in the uptown area. Sherman National Bank, led by Edward C. Smith, plans to occupy the Astor Court Building lease and begin with about $1,000,000 in deposits and $300,000 capital resources. Bryant Park National may start in fall in the Forty second Street district with a $200,000 capital and $100,000 surplus.
Johnnie Kabitsky a East 121st Street schoolboy wandered with companions planning a country trip to hunt Indians. He got lost without food, slept in a desert barn, then was found exhausted by a 196th Street patrol and taken to the 128th Street station. His guardian arrived, and he began to recover.
Benedetto Gentile an 84 year old Sicilian of East Seventeenth Street confessed to killing Julius Rosenheimer at his Pelham home on Tuesday night. Held for examination, Gentile is described as drunk and possibly mentally unwell, sent to Bellevue prison ward for alcohol treatment. An assisting law clerk led police to Gentile after tracking him from the Bronx to a Ninth Street saloon.
President Woodrow Wilson proposes dissolving campus clubs at Princeton to form residential quad units with equal class representation. He argues the social structure distracts from academics and divides classes, urging a living arrangement where seniors to freshmen share meals and housing under faculty oversight.
An express train from New York to Boston crashed into a switching engine in Springfield's freight yard. At least two passengers suffered serious injuries, with many others cut or bruised. Injured included J B Johnson and R E Haskins of New York, and Mrs F A Jennings. crews jumped to safety and two women continued to Boston after treatment.
Mary Hollister a milkmaid at a farm near Budd's Lake New Jersey saved two boys Clarence Hubbard and James Douglas from drowning. The boys members of a fishing party rowed to a secluded spot when their boat capsized and neither could swim. Hollister hearing cries rushed to help and pulled Hubbard aboard then dived to rescue Douglas after he sank. She brought him to the surface and kept them afloat until help arrived and then cared for them until they could return home.
Tobia Rotundo, 74, a Garibaldi veteran, was detained briefly after onlookers mistook him walking with his four year old granddaughter Marie in Central Park West near 100th Street. A court interpreter cleared him and Rotundo was released after his relation to the child was proven.
Fire destroyed three two story brick buildings on Avenue A east side between Ninety-first and Ninety-second Streets. Loss estimated at $100000. Occupants included East River Hotel saloon beer garden Welsberg Window Frame Manufacturing Co and American Ice Co with 200 horses in adjacent stables saved by Supt Free man. No casualties reported.
Major T Lemuel Harper a leading steel man and Americas Republican Club official fired at Levi De Wolf a prominent stock broker in De Wolf s Columbia Bank building Pittsburgh. The shots failed as De Wolf Adams grappled with Harper and police took him to Central Station where bail was denied.
Dan R. Hanna son of the late Senator M A Hanna wed Mary Stuart at the bride's mother's home in Cleveland. The ceremony was simple with few witnesses. The couple will reside at Hanna's country home near Ravenna after a trip east. Daisy Gordon Hanna the second wife recently divorced is rumored to wed Roy York, a Cleveland broker now in New York.
Miss Maud Miller of Elkton and T Alanson Briggs of New York City were married at the Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. J. M. McGill officiating. The bride, daughter of a local merchant, previously won a Europe trip in a Courier-Journal contest. The bridegroom is a New York attorney and son of an Episcopal clergyman. They departed for Switzerland and will reside in New York.
Dense fog outside the Narrows caused shipping delays as several steamers remained anchored. The Atlantic Transport liner Minnetonka was signaling by wireless and was expected at the harbor, but failed to arrive yesterday. Afternoon ferry service to Coney Island was also halted due to the weather.
The government yacht Sylph, here to ferry the Harvard Varsity eight guests of Teddy Roosevelt Jr., was ordered to Oyster Bay today to bring Archie Roosevelt to New Haven. The boat is expected to return early Thursday morning with the Roosevelt party to view the Yale Harvard regatta.
The Rev. Oscar W. Fisher, who resigned from St. John's German Lutheran Church and vanished on April 1 with his wife and six children, returned to Bridgeton and reconciled with his family before heading to Philadelphia where they will live. Christina Scheyhing, a choir singer who vanished the same day, is said to be employed in a Philadelphia department store.
Stuyvesant Fish Jr son of the former Illinois Central president arrives in Muskogee Indian Territory as an assistant station agent. He has been there a week and tells reporters he is learning the business from the bottom up. His mail also delays in Abilene Kansas. He will start his railroad career in Muskogee.
The body of a newborn male infant was discovered in the yard behind 146 Clinton Street. Children reported seeing two men drop the baby in a burlap bag from the roof of the rear four story tenement at 89 Attor ney Street. The bag snagged, and the infant cried briefly before dying. Autopsy planned. Delancey Street police seek the two men described.
Eleven people died and many were prostrated as a heat wave struck the Pittsburg area after a spell of cold weather. Mills and plants reported exhausted workers on short shifts while a late rain briefly touched the scene before drying up. Temperature reached 82 degrees, seven degrees below yesterday.
The Pacific Steam Navigation coasting steamer Santiago of 1368 tons was wrecked fifty miles north of Corral after engines failed in a heavy squall. Four passengers and eighty seven crew were aboard. fear grows that all but one passenger and one officer perished. The Arequipa sister ship sank years ago in Valparaiso Bay.
Christopher Richardson, a affluent retired Providence merchant, died after gashing his throat and wrists in his bathroom at 315 West 106th Street. Coroner Harburger stated despondency and poor health preceded the act. burial planned in Rhode Island. Family had packed trunks for a summer trip.

Frederick Frier aged about 60 known as Dutch Fred was found drowned in a spring near John B. Dunster's residence in Summit New Jersey. A mossy sunk barrel around the spring caused him to slip headfirst into the water and he could not escape. He had lived in Bernardsville about forty years and worked as a hostler for Dunster.
Ten prominent Colorado citizens were arrested in Denver on June 24 in connection with indictments by a special Grand Jury. The charges allege conspiracy to defraud the government under coal and timber laws. Named arrestees include John B. McMillan and Robert Forester.
