National Newark Bank files suit in Newark Supreme Court against Lackawanna Railroad Co to recover 30000 loaned on grain shipment certificates to Elliott F Archer, a broker who vanished months ago. Bank claims railroad illegally released 44 loading cars without bills of lading, asserting ownership. Archer led A & Howell Co. his mother Mary Archer accused of being sole holder. Archer left a wife and three children.
Five daily trains run from New York to Cincinnati and St Louis on the New York Central. The Limited departs New York at 5 30 P M.

At a brief meeting the Pennsylvania Railroad reshuffled top operating posts, promoting new leaders and preparing further changes through six months. J. M. Wallis exits on leave. W. W. Atterbury becomes General Manager. G. W. Creighton and others appointed to key posts with intent to install new men and methods at Broad Street Station.
Cherokee Bill Smith, a halfbreed Indian, sought by posses in southeastern Colorado, was captured by three Bent County Deputy Sheriffs near Big Cedars after eight shots were fired. He is accused of robbing Carlton Post Office weeks ago, but was in company with two others who likely fled to Indian Territory.
In Cooperstown New York a local telephone war develops between the Bell line and an independent company. The Bell line has long charged high rentals while the town pushes to cut prices or oust the old provider. Wires and poles line the streets as the rival firm offers six months free service to new subscribers. Both sides claim daily gains as the battle continues.

A Byron Hot Springs rear-end collision tonight leaves about fifteen dead and twenty-seven injured. The Stockton Flier crashed into the Owl in train service from San Francisco to Los Angeles, which departed at 4:30 PM. Most injured were Owl passengers.
Washington December conference between E H Harriman of the Southern Pacific Union Pacific and Pacific Mail with Secretary Root discussed transferring army transports from the War Department to a private company forming a San Francisco to Orient commercial line. Root indicated plans to seek Congressional authority to enable such a transfer or charter and noted progress was limited.
A northbound Sixth Avenue car collided with a delivery wagon of Adams Dry Goods at Forty-sixth Street. Passengers, mostly women, panicked as the wagon’s driver Richard Hillenbrank escaped injury. the motorman John Feehan halted the car, and the crowd calmed after minutes. No arrests were reported and the wagon was rendered out of service.
In Boston on December 20, fashion trends are reshaping cotton goods production. A year and a half ago wide fabrics earned 5 to 10 percent more than narrow goods, but now the margin has narrowed. Wide goods sell around 3 15 16 cents per yard, regulars at 8 cents, and narrow grades fetch slightly higher prices, creating a three quarters of a cent per pound spread on fabrics from the same yarns.
Worcester Massachusetts December 20 The Morgan Truck Company has completed and tested the largest automobile ever built in the world It carries ten tons per load and is steel constructed It runs on steam with a double compound oil engine The torpedo water tube boiler supports two or three loading bodies with removable trucks and running gear Two cranes attached to the truck lift heavy steel beams or granite blocks The daily capacity is estimated at 400 tons.

Schenectady N Y Dec 20 The local Painters Union, from which William Potter was expelled for National Guard membership, promised through its attorney to reinstate him. Supreme Court Justice Howard heard arguments at a Troy special term on Potter injunction but adjourned the case indefinitely after the union attorney pledged obedience to the injunction.
The Raymond and Whitcomb Company offers special trains from New York to California with no change of cars and first class accommodations. January and February departures tour old Mexico with a rotating hotel on wheels. They provide tours to Florida Europe Round the World Cuba Porto Rico Oriental Lands and sell tickets worldwide. Circulars will be mailed to interested parties.
Seaboard Air Line Railway announces the only daily limited train from New York to Florida. Train departs from West 23d Street Penn Railroad Ferry at 12:55 noon. Office diagram now open at 1 Broadway.
The latest medical bulletins report Cornelius Vanderbilt as in a critical condition with no new complications, but several signs of improvement noted since Friday. Drs Flint Janeway and Delafield reviewed progress. peritonitis shows marked improvement and fever remains absent. Mrs Vanderbilt reportedly holds up, while visitors include R T Wilson and Miss May Goelet.
A severe blizzard swept Eastern Colorado Wyoming and Western Nebraska and Kansas with eleven inches of snow and forty five mile winds. Cheyenne businesses stalled as trains were delayed or abandoned. The Colorado and Southern southbound train from Cheyenne was buried nine feet on Buckhorn Hill before miners freed it.
In Colorado Springs heavy snow blocked lines while no trains entered or left the city on the Rock Island Railroad last night. By daybreak every snowplow owned by the company in Colorado and western Kansas was in use as drifts three to thirteen feet deep buried tracks near Limon, Colorado.
Reported blizzards disrupt travel across Lincoln and Northwestern Nebraska on Burlington and Elkhorn lines with feet of snow. In Wyoming, Yesterdays blizzard tops the worst on record, risking lives as stages fail and a Centennial driver may be lost. Taos and Mora Counties in New Mexico receive ten inches of snow, the heaviest since 1892.
Chicago reports 100000 railroad workers in the West seek wage raises up to about 20 percent through Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and Order of Railway Conductors. Committees plan meetings with railroad officials this week to pursue gains. no strike but demands are sharper than those of engineers and firemen. Southwestern routes centered in St Louis also see petitions from railway employes for higher pay, with a general conference set for January 5 to discuss the matter.
The Rev. E. H. Mills reports that every dollar of the twenty million dollars sought three years ago has been raised in cash or pledges. More than five hundred thousand dollars for educational purposes has been received in forty five days. His report will be given at a watch night service in Trinity Church Springfield Mass. on New Year’s Eve.
