Pickpockets Busy at Brown County Fair
Lightfingered artists operated at the Brown County Fair stealing about $200 from a dozen attendees. Police rounded up two suspects. one was caught, the other escaped. A man named Charles Scanlon from Rochester was jailed briefly but released due to lack of evidence. Suspected female accomplices and the escaped man remain at large.

Man Killed by Westbound Passenger Train in New Ulm
A transient harvest laborer about 40 was struck and killed by an early morning westbound passenger train near Second and Third North Streets in New Ulm. Coroner Dr. G. P. Reinéke ruled death an accident after an inquest. The body, identified by George Gieseke, had no valuables and was bound for Palatine Illinois for burial.
