New rules force major papers to cut newsprint use
Wet Industries Board orders a 15 percent drop in ordinary newsprint consumption. Twin Cities dailies must shrink per-issue sizes, with Sundays facing heavier cuts. Funnies like the Katzies and Father and others may be eliminated or reduced to save paper for the war effort. Country weeklies struggle, as eight pages is near the limit without shrinking to four pages.
