Candidates file for Brown county offices in wide primaries

Nearly forty candidates filed for Brown county primaries on June 19 with commissioner, sheriff, and register of deeds drawing the most interest. Incumbents seek re election across offices including auditor Louis G Vorss who has served twenty six years. A separate traffic incident involved a minor collision between a Chevrolet driven by Herman Bong and a Buick driven by Dr Emil Mueller on Minnwouth street.

Kurzweil Fined for Striking Grobner at Brick Yard

Joseph Kurzweil was fined 25 dollars and 9 dollars costs in Justice George Hagen's court for striking Anton Groebner Sr. with pliers near the right eye at the brick yard. The act followed days of ill feeling between the workers and Groebner testified Kurzweil sprang from a bush and struck him.

Hofmeister to Lead Springfield Orchestra After New Ulm Departure

Captain Hofmeister, longtime leader of New Ulm’s Hofmeister band, will leave for Springfield to head the Orpheus band. He cites better financial opportunities and will have his family join him, with five of his sons joining the new ensemble. Born 1867 in Bohemia, he arrived in New Ulm at age 14 and built a statewide reputation through multiple bands and the Great Western Band.

Glassman Wins Sunstroke Compensation Suit

Edward Glassman who suffered a sunstroke in June 1921 while working in the Radtke garage in this city has been awarded compensation by the State Supreme Court. He will receive 13.33 a week during disability for his family, which has been destitute since his illness. The case involved appeals by Radtke and Maryland Casualty Company amid delays caused by defense attorneys.

Sportsmen Meet in City June 8 Highlight Minnesota Protectors

New Ulm hosts a gathering of southern Minnesota sportsmen Thursday evening June 8 as the Minnesota Lakes Preservation League holds a greeting meeting. Ten Thousand Lakes Association backs the effort to protect and propagate game and preserve Minnesota’s natural beauty in forest, field and stream. A W Mueller of New Ulm is named a director, with George Fond of Mankato as president and B Miller of St Peter and R A Mathwick of Gaylord among other directors.

Chautauqua Programs Delayed For New Ulm Event

The New Ulm Chautauqua slated for June 16 to 19 is late in arriving. White and Myers present attractions for the event. The high school senior class skipped a picnic to the Cottonwood Inn where they enjoyed amusements and bathing.

Arrangements for the Brown County Farm Bureau Picnic on Wednesday include speakers F L French and FY Peck. Athletic events and a tug of war will feature teams from east and west halves. Memorial Day Observed Amid Rain in Springfield

Memorial Day events in Springfield faced heavy rain reducing participation. The Hofmeister Band led the parade with Civil War veterans, Hecker Circle ladies, the American Legion, school children, and Burgs Battery. Services moved to the cemetery with speeches by Capt. Streissguth and Capt. Steinhauser.

Isaacson Taken at local hotel in court appearance

A. Isaacson also known as Saxon was arrested by Deputy W H Gieseke at the Dakota House early Saturday and jailed on a charge of attempted disposition of a mortgaged Chevrolet without mortgagee notice. He pleaded not guilty before Judge Olson and posted 500 bail.
