New Ulm Opens Season with Win Over Winthrop

New Ulm opened the baseball season with an 11 to 1 victory over Winthrop. Mayor L A Fritsche delivered the first ball as the local club stressed a six run first frame. Fisk pitched well, allowing only one run on seven hits as New Ulm built a big early lead and never looked back. Next Sunday New Ulm hosts Lafayette, then Decorated Day brings St Peter to town.

City council seeks bids to dismantle old light plant stack

The city council advertises for bids to dismantle the brick chimney and smoke stack of the old electric light and waterworks plant down to the roof, with bids due by 6 o'clock June 6, at the regular meeting Tuesday evening. They also plan to approve eight proposed sewer assessments for Washington Street and Minnesota Street corridors and a water mains assessment from Lighthouse to Twelfth Street South, inviting interested parties to attend.

Stranger Found Dead in Box Car at Sleepy Eye

An unidentified man about 45 years old died in a Sleepy Eye box car last week. A companion alerted Night Policeman Joe Schueller that the man was very sick, but he died before aid arrived. Coroner Kiefer ruled convulsions as cause. The penniless stranger had only a comb and a corn cob pipe. Remains taken to Buenger's undertaking parlors for burial.

Creameries Thrive as New Ulm Dairy Boom Prospers

In New Ulm the Minnesota Central Creamery shows rapid growth with monthly butter output rising from 2 465 pounds in February 1920 to about 100 000 pounds in May 1922. The Farmers Creamery ships over three tons weekly to New York City, while the central facility expands storage and refrigeration to handle increased business.

Candidates filing for Brown County offices May 29

By Monday afternoon twenty nine candidates had filed for national offices in Brown County. The final filing day is Monday May 29 with more filings possible. Among those listed are Anton Loaichen of Home for Commissioner Fourth District Otto Friton of Stark for County Treasurer Mrs Jennie Fredericson of New Ulm for superintendent of schools Dan Mecklenburg of Bass for Commissioner Third District and J O Case of Bosyng for sheriff.

New Ulm Urged as Ideal Site for Minnesota River Dam

An open meeting in New Ulm highlighted the Minnesota Drainage and Conservancy District plan to build a dam below the Cottonwood where it meets the Minnesota. A. F. Meyer of Minneapolis urged New Ulm as the best location to flood 2000 acres and form a 60,000 to 75,000 acre artificial lake while protecting city property. He cited reduced flood risk, two new bridges, and 400 to 800 horsepower power potential, with about 1 million dollars needed for the project at New Ulm.

New Ulm Women to Attend Meet in Redwood Falls

New Ulm women from the Woman's Literary Club and the Current News Club will send delegates to the Seni Congressional District Federator Clubs annual convention in Redwood Falls on June 7 8 and 9. Court jurors prove capable in meeting time and judgment

District court jurors handled incest cases against Henry Allen with careful selection and strong questions. Windschittl, indicted for two counts of incest, pleaded not guilty after being arrested in St Paul. Mueller verdict awarded $128.70 to the plaintiff for services under a contract. Brown County women jurors performed well, with Mrs. Welcome, Mrs. Luetjen, and Mrs. Graft taking key roles. Rattenberg won $752.52 from Louise Kehms in a note dispute tied to 1912, while Vogelpohl was awarded $44.89 against Carl for a minor related case. John Ubi was freed of hastardy charges amid courtroom tensions. Bank wins its suit as jury deliberations continue on page 6.

August Trapp, a farmer two miles north of Sandborn, was badly injured when kicked in the face by a horse in his barn. Found semi conscious with severe facial wounds, he could not explain the cause of his injuries.

The New Ulm Rural Telephone Co. voted to buy the seven mile Tri-State line from North Third Street to Courtland. The move ends a long discussion as Tri-State reduces holdings. damage from recent storms will require substantial repairs. Driver dies under auto near Mankato

P. G. Konkel of Minneapolis, driver of a Chevrolet from Omaha to the Twin City market, was killed beneath an overturned car near Mankato. He was part of a four-driver party crossing the country. He was married and had a son named Silver Joe Konkel, former mayor of Superior, Wisconsin.
