Farmers win refunds for Red Cross contributions in Minnesota

New Ulm Soldiers Return from France With Diverse Roles
Four New Ulm soldiers cap the postwar homecoming with varied military careers in France. Capt Bert Hubbard led Co B 47th infantry and served in the 24th replacement division and 91st division before return to the U.S. Paul Winkelmann worked with replacement battalions to prepare soldiers for regiments and served from Moran to Clermont-Argonne. Cornelius Burk handled machine guns. Frank Niemann aided cross channel transport and logistics. Hubbard plans to stay in New Ulm then move to Fargo, while Winkelmann recounts duty across France and arrival in New York en route to Camp Dodge.

City Council Plans Water Mains and Boulevard Front Street
At a May meeting the New Ulm City Council directed the city engineer to prepare plans for water mains on Front Street from 5th to 6th North, a Front Street water sewer, and boulevard improvements from Center to Third North and from 5th to 6th North. The clerk was authorized to advertise for bids by June 3 1919 for vault equipment. Estimates approved include 13382 56 to A C Thomas Guthrie Construction for the Municipal Building and 50058 38 to P J Gallagher for heating and plumbing work plus 499 55 to Langfried Electric for electrical.
