Defects Found in Meat Inspection Bill Split Views in Congress
Washington June 16 Chairman Wadsworth released letters between President Roosevelt and the agriculture committee about the meat inspection measure. The president says most changes favor the packers and weaken enforcement, while Wadsworth contends the president errs and the committee’s bill harms honest stockraisers and the public. A memo will accompany any bill not truly remedying evils, with concerns over courts and other provisions. Also a Confederate soldiers memorial was unveiled in Thompson Wisconsin with Daughters of the Confederacy involvement and letters from southern governors read.
