Regiment Homecoming Of Company A Good

The Company A Good unit returned Sunday evening from a ten day encampment at Lake City praised for attendance and drill. Sergeant Groebner was promoted to second lieutenant, with regimental officers complimenting the company’s appearance and discipline. A large crowd greeted the train, a provisional band led the march to the armory, and an election filled the vacancy left by the resignation. Sharpshooter medal awarded to Constantine Schmid for high score in target practice.

Governor Johnson Not Worried About November Vote

In a city visit last week Governor Johnson discussed politics with local Democrats. He suggests Cole’s nomination reflected corporate and Minneapolis lumber interests, not Republican delegates’ will, and says he has governed in the state’s best interests. He backs Roosevelt if the GOP nominates him, and supports state development and emigration efforts to counter Canadian land drains.

McCleary's Bill Passes House With Federal Building Fund

The omnibus bill near adjournment includes a $35000 appropriation for a federal building in the city. Citizens long urged Congressman McCleary to secure the project, noting a recent ruling that cities over 5000 gain eligibility. Senate approval is still required. Floral Tribute At Mrs. Helena Seiter Funeral At Turner Theatre

Funeral services for Mrs. Helena Seiter were held at Turner Theatre on Thursday afternoon with a garden of flowers, extensive tributes from Gov. Johnson and wife, and a large crowd. Albert Steinhauser spoke of her character and life, followed by songs from the choir and floral departures by the ladies of her society. The ceremony ended with a grave-side service, rain limiting attendance yet drawing many residents and contributing to church funds.

Rieke retires from politics amid family and work duties

A V Rieke announces he will not seek re election to the Minnesota State Senate after eight years in office. He cites family obligations, growing legal practice, and a belief eight years is enough, while stressing continued interest in republicanism and good citizenship. New Fuel Ready for Fall Market at Janesville Plant

G W Bunce, VP of Mankato Peat Fuel, says the Janesville plant will be erected and operated, with machinery ordered. Construction to finish by mid August, at a cost around fifty thousand dollars. The site south of the railroad on marsh terrain will use automatic gear and long cable transport. Capacity set at one hundred tons daily, potentially rising. market readiness expected by September 1. The fuel is claimed to be superior to coal, producing no smoke or odor and easier disposal as its light fibers dissipate with the air.

Band Concert for Kitzberger Benefit by Second Regiment Band

The Second Regiment Band and Turnverein organize a benefit concert at Turner Hall Park Sunday evening for Henry Kitzberger who is home with a broken leg after camp. All gate receipts will go to support him. Kitzberger has long been active in city musical circles and helped elevate local standards. Grand concert seats to be reserved at Pioneer Drugstore

Arrangements by local enthusiasts for a grand fifty five voice concert at St. Peter Saturday evening. Two plat of the house will be at the Pioneer Drug store for those who wish to reserve seats. Turner park is praised as a gem with dark red roses grafted on wild varieties by Julius Krause.
