Fire in paired shop sparks cautious rescue in New Ulm
Around 1 o clock Thursday morning a fire broke out in John Wartha’s North Minnesota Street workshop. Neighbors Robert Meidl and others alerted firefighters who contained the blaze with Hose Company No. 2 arriving as water was already being applied. Officials suspect spontaneous combustion from oil and varnish rags, though a heavy rain was falling. Also reported: a serious accident at St. Louis switch yards where William Robins suffered a crushed right foot while adjusting a coupling. he was treated and taken to Union Hospital.
