Sleepy Eye man held on grand jury charge
James Riley of Sleepy Eye has been jailed since last Friday after an arrest on January 5 for allegedly stealing $150 from J. F. Maselhaim of a nearby village. Judge J. Cutting ordered a preliminary hearing, and Riley waived it to the next grand jury term, as bail of $1,000 could not be posted. Deputy Terman Wahnke arrested and jailed Riley in Sleepy Eye.

Chicken Talkfest Attracts Crowds At New Ulm Armory Show
A large crowd attended the chicken talkfest exhibition at the New Ulm Armory drawing families from Brown County and surrounding areas. Birds from many towns were shown, with two giant specimens drawing special attention. Judge C. E. Brown of the State Agricultural College evaluated birds’ condition and features, awarding top prizes including a 95 point White Plymouth Rock pullet owned by Mrs. A. H. Klemo etland township and a sweepstakes cup to J. Arnox Kennedy of Rochester for his C Brown Leghorns. Awards went to several Sleepy Eye, Rochester, Lake Crystal, and surrounding exhibitors, marking solid year-over-year progress.

John H. Siedel retires after 22 years at Eagle Roller Mill Company in New Ulm.
