Brown County Poultry Association hosts its second annual exhibition January 17 20 1919 at the New Ulm Armory. Entries close January 14 stock must be in by January 16 with 10 pm. show room closed to removals until January 20. Awards include blue red white green ribbons plus cash prizes, medals, and a three color diploma for top birds. A canning demonstration by county 4 H clubs leads weekend activities with Prof Tl A Erickson guiding.

Major Quane Returns From War Service in New York
New York dispatch reports Major O. J. Quane of the Eighth anti-aircraft sector arrived in New York with 1,648 soldiers on two transports. Quane, a Spanish-American War veteran from St. Peter Minnesota, served as observer and was gassed twice, but did not seek medical attention. He is described as nearly recovered and previously editor of the New Ulm Review.

Tragic flu epidemic claims three in Courtland home
In Courtland Township during the week the influenza outbreak took three lives. Miss Hulda Lieder, a nurse, died after caring for Meyer family patients at the Wm Meyer home. Martha Harmening Meyer and William Meyer also died, leaving young children and surviving relatives across Courtland and nearby townships. Funeral services were held in Courtland. Lieder was buried in New Ulm.
