Tragedy Near Cambria Fire Kills Reese and William Thomas

A cottage explosion caused by kerosene fire early Monday morning killed two well known Cambria area bachelors Reese and William Thomas. The brothers, aged 37 and 31, perished in a burning farm shack two miles east of Cambria while attempting to extinguish flames. Reese was found outside in torn clothing and burns, William reached a spring and then died from his injuries after extensive efforts to save him. Neighbors and Dr. L A Fritsche investigated the scene as officials described a devastating blaze.

Benz Will Filed For Probate In Ramsey County

The will of Hon. George Benz, St Paul citizen, filed Friday in Ramsey County probate court by executors Geo G Benz and Herman L Benz. Personal property valued at $216 312 and real estate at $25 000, dated January 2 1908. Gifts include 1000 to four orphan asylums and to his sisters, 2500 to niece in Germany, residue to widow Yosa Benz with share to eight children on her death. Also notes a court note about a forthcoming marriage and a local medical society meeting in Brown Redwood County with doctors to attend and papers to be presented.

McCleary Expected to resign as postmaster general aide

Washington reports say James S. McCleary, second assistant postmaster general, plans to resign next summer to return to Minnesota and run for Congress after a conference with President Roosevelt. McCleary denies the report in a personal interview, though others believe he will leave.

Pinkerton Abandons Walther Case to Local Authorities

Pinkerton agents say they cannot progress the Walther death mystery and abandon further work. Detective Crawford reports to the council that no clue remains and that the investigation should be carried by local sleuths alone. Insurance Companies Hold Meetings in Brown County

Brown County mutual and New Sweden Insurance companies reported strong results. Stark Farmers Mutual showed 1,854 in force with 3,841,641 dollars insured, about 200,000 more than last year, while New Sweden faced heavier losses this year with 26 fire claims totaling 92,793.50 and 27 lightning claims at 6,100.20. Nicollet County risks stand at 4,120, and policies in force at 2,049.
