Dr John Gray Addresses Local Audiences On Unemployment
Dr John Archer Gray spoke at Turner Hall and local churches on unemployment in New York City during the 1890s. He described sleeping on park benches and hash houses, lived among Bowery workers for three months, and urged reform via government work farms to lift idle men toward honest livelihoods. Miss Leonore Ulrich, famed for Luana, plays in Minneapolis and soon Mankato.

City Wells Are Now Completed In Stalled Water Works Plans
At a Thursday city council meeting discussion focused on rebuilding bad approaches at Nicollet County side of Reussmann and Courtland bridges. The panel approved 1653.75 for the city well near the reservoir and planned a deep well pump linked to the power plant. A liquor license transfer was approved after applicants appeared in person. The council adopted rules to cut electric and water service to delinquents by the 20th of the month. Health and garbage operations were reviewed, and a new city hall committee was formed. A new well near the reservoir reportedly yields 200 gallons per minute, though not yet put into service. Dr Loyal Lincoln Wirt is billed as the February Lyceum entertainer.

Mueller Recognized as Chairman of Mileage Committee
Representative Alfred W. Mueller returned from St Paul as the legislature adjourned until Monday eight o'clock. He was appointed chairman of the mileage committee, the first committee named by Speaker Flowers who will appoint the rest next week. Mueller says Flowers will be an elegant speaker and fair to all. Flowers is a banker from Cleveland Minnesota.

New owners Otto F. Oswald and Charles A. Rice of Robbinsdale took possession of the New Ulm Steam Laundry Monday with former owners John Nagel and George Leary assisting for 30 days. They secured a five year lease and may buy the building if profitable. The Rice family plans to move to New Ulm in the spring. The Congregational Church held its annual meeting with about 130 attendees, reporting small balances in treasury and electing officers including Supt G A Ottomeyer and Clerk Herman Held.
