Contract Awarded to Silas Jacobson for Power Plant Plans
New Ulm city council at a special meeting unanimously awarded the contract to Silas Jacobson a St Paul architect who will draw plans and specifications for the proposed North German park municipal power house. The council favored reliability and service over lower bid and debated appointing Chas Heers as supervisor with the matter to be settled at the next monthly meeting. Architect Jacobson is to sign the contract at the next session, with other bids from Croft Boerner and Plagens considered. City books will be audited by H Hartmann of Milwaukee who has served the city for years.

The Minnesota Livestock Breeder Association offers 15 in prizes for boys and girls dairy and livestock judging in 1920, contingent on county fair matches. Local contests pay first seven dollars, second six, third eight, fourth three, plus six two dollar prizes. entrants must be under 18 and county clubs must form by August. The two top county winners advance to a state contest with travel paid, and the top three in the state earn a free trip to the National Dairy Show or International Livestock Show in Chicago for a national meet.

Labor Meeting Planned to Organize Local Branch
A large labor gathering is planned in Turner Hall to organize a local branch of the Working People's Nonpartizan League. Fire damages Johnson & Company overall factory
A large fire last Wednesday evening January 28 damaged the Johnson & Company overall factory in New Ulm. The blaze started in the basement among cut overalls and spread to the first and second floors, with losses estimated around $13,000 to $14,000 for the factory and $1,500 for the Gas Company. Firemen battled dense smoke for about 1 hour 15 minutes, saving much of the stock and equipment. Insurance covered the Gas Company loss, while the factory stock was under-insured.

Flood Control Meeting Planned at New Ulm Courthouse

Seniors Win Siegel Trophy In Declamation Contest
Willard Vogel and Thelma Rinke, seniors at New Ulm High School, will represent the eastern section in the district oratorical and declamatory contest at the local auditorium next Friday. The event includes schools from New Ulm, Mankato area, Sleepy Eye, St Peter, Gibbon and Redwood Falls with the district meet at Mankato on Feb 27. Elimination contests last week chose Vogel and Rinke as the top winners for the boys and girls teams respectively, with Vogel also securing the Siegel trophy along with junior contender John Graff and freshman Roy Pfeiffer in the boys division, and Thelma Rinke winning top honors in the girls division with Lillian Eyrich as runner-up.

Extortion Case Set For Trial February 10
Vidian B. Vye of St Paul and Ed Cutting of Sleepy Eye face extortion charges to be heard in district court before Judge C E Quale in Willmar next Tuesday February 10 at 10 am. Four indictments, one for extortion and two for attempted extortion, allege actions as agents for the Minnesota Food Administration in Brown County during 1918.
