Brown County Fair Promises Spectacular Attractions
The Brown County Fair sets Aug 27 to 29 with aeroplane flights, military balloon ascents, and dramatic parachute drops by pairs. Red Cross Supplies Comfort Bags for Soldiers
St Peter chapter sought 30 bags for Company K of Brown County’s soldiers. New Ulm chapter provided them. every man in the St Peter company later received a bag. Each comfort bag contains two handkerchiefs, shoe strings, cup, tobacco, toothbrush, tablets, envelopes, postal cards, playing cards, wash cloth, soap, and a small sewing kit. Mrs Beecher and sons traveled to St Peter to deliver the bags with other supporters.

Dr Seifert Called to Prepare for Army Service
Last Wednesday Dr Jr Seifert received a telegram to report at Fort Ridgely around August 27 for federal medical training. He has been commissioned a first lieutenant in the army medical service and expects three months at the training camp before active service possibly in France or at a concentration camp. He is arranging his affairs to be ready to answer the call.

Child Struck and Killed by Auto in City Street
A four year old girl, Alice Verdan, daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Werdan, died after being struck by a car driven by Harvey Wellner of Lafayette township on North Third Street. The accident occurred Monday morning near the Verdan home. Wellner said he was traveling about ten miles per hour. An inquest found the death to be accidental with no blame placed. Funeral services were planned at the Lutheran church.
