Fort Ridgely anniversary rites plan restoration drive

Aug 22 marks the 60th anniversary of the Ft Ridgely battle. Col C H Hopkins of Fairfax leads a campaign to restore the fort to its 1862 appearance and create a 60 acre lake. Major Albert H Pfander will speak. New Ulm and Fairfax teams meet in a baseball clash. a dance follows.

Fort Hill Farmers Picnic Draws 400 In Brown County

Four hundred southeastern Brown county farmers enjoyed a Sunday afternoon at Fort Hill park with music by Mount Pisqua orchestra, speaking by County Commissioner John M. Johnson and I M Kalnes, and a program of canoeing, swimming, and lunch. Kalnes urged farmer organization to win better pay and to elect farmer leaders, referencing Magnus Johnson and the 1862 pioneer era. The event followed by a tale contrasting propaganda and farmer prosperity.

Sleepy Eye Riot Appeals Move to Higher Courts

Kiesling House Stands Intact in New Ulm Old Settler Vine

The Kiesling house along Minnesota Street remains largely as it was in 1862 during the Indian attack. Fred W. Peuser’s family occupies the home, with a legendary monster grape vine covering the building and store, now nicknamed an old settler after nearly sixty years of growth.
