Pinchot Signs Bills Of Local Interest In Adams County

Governor Pinchot signed a batch of measures of local interest affecting Adams County. Highlights include deer kill limits raised to six per camp, traveling judge pay cut to 20 dollars daily, trout catch cap set at 20, reduced juror and witness fees, and new county employee retirement provisions with a 100 dollar maximum pension. Also: raccoon trapping banned.

Gardners Woman Found Dead at Home

Mrs. Katherine Cluck Bream, 75, of Gardners, was found dead Monday night in her home. Coroner Dr. Edgar Miller said probable heart attack. She was last seen at noon when neighbor delivered mail. Survived by brothers Jerry Cluck and William Cluck. Funeral arrangements pending.

Adams County Students Prepare for State Teachers College Graduation

Donald Bushey Eugene DaRone and Roy R. Wentz from the four year class and Miss Jessie W. Crouse Miss Ruth Gardner from the two year class, all of Adams county, will graduate from the State Teachers College Shippensburg next Monday.

Fire destroys farm buildings at East Berlin farm

Fire started by a defective chimney destroyed the washhouse at Charles Brough's farm near East Berlin, menaced the dwelling, and caused losses of several hundred dollars. Neighbors aided, East Berlin fire company saved the main house. prior Saturday storm had damaged other local farms including Renoll and Wise.

Red Cross Seeks Unemployed Men for Highway Work

Mias Margaret McMillan announced openings for highway construction for registered jobless men in the Gettysburg district. She urged unemployed men from Cumberland and parts of Mt. Joy Tyrone Straban Franklin Freedom Highland and Mt Pleasant townships to report to her for assignments this Wednesday morning.

Ald society meeting and community notes at Hampton

Hampton report covers the Ladies’ Ald society gathering at the Fitzgerald home with several members present. Church events include a Sunday school and a Holtz schwamm choir program plus a county C E convention set for June 15. Numerous local residents visit relatives, travel to York Springs, Abbottstown, and Hanover, and a Saturday tornado caused barn roof damage and uprooted trees.
