Midgets to Race at Lincoln Oval

A large UMRC field will race at Lincoln Speedway with a full card of midgets and stock cars. Two outlaw Buick powered machines will appear after being allowed to compete with UMRC. The program includes a 25-lap Sportsman Modified feature and a 20-lap Late Model feature. August 31 Langhorne Open qualifying, Langhorne PA, October 13.

York Springs couple wed with hometown attendants

The wedding in York Springs united the bride and groom with brid al attendants Mrs George Miller Idaville and Miss Karen Kennedy York Springs. Capt Robert Sibert Baltimore Md brother of the groom served as best man with ushers William Lehman Ray Sibert Randy Lehman and Kim Lehman. After a reception at York Springs Community Hall the couple left for a wedding trip and will reside in York Springs. The bride, a graduate of Bermudian Springs High School and Hagerstown Business College, works for C H Masland and Sons Carlisle. The groom, a Gettsyburg High School alumnus, works for Ditzler's Furniture Store Biglerville.

Buchanan Valley Picnic Returns for Old Jesuit Mission

The annual Old Jesuit Mission picnic in Adams County is set for Saturday August 24 from noon to midnight. Now in its 125th year the event features chicken and ham dinners, games, refreshments, mountain music, and dancing with Merle Everts and His Hilltop Harmonizers plus Linda Mayestadio recording and TV stars.

The 16th annual Adams County Fair opened Tuesday evening with cattle and horticulture exhibits and other articles. The fair runs through Saturday with nightly entertainment and Saturday afternoon events.

Kingsdale Carnival Slated For Next Week

The 5th annual Kingsdale Fire Carnival runs August 26 to 31 at the carnival grounds two and a half miles from Lit testown on Taneytown Rd. The program features Sonny George and His Pennsylvania Hill Billies Oklahoma Travelers Southland Playboys Beauty Pageant Buck Benson show Littlestown High School Band with a Saturday matinee from 2 to 4 pm. Adams County to Begin Issuing Hunting Licenses Aug 26

Adams County Treasurer Daniel J. Wolf received state guidance on hunting license pricing and issuance dates. Pennsylvanians 12 to 6 pay 3.20, 17 and older pay 5.20, nonresidents 25.35, with 10 cents postage. applications before September 20. Doe licenses cut to 1,750. bows allowed with existing license. archery licenses 2.15. bow season October 7 to 31.

Bicentennial Group Meets In East Berlin

The East Berlin bicentennial commission met at 8 oclock Wednesday evening at the East Berlin fire hall. The celebration will run the week of June 14 to 20 1964 announced chairman Irwin Gross. Regular meetings resume with calls for locals to share historical materials and photos for display.

Symphony To Give Concert In Hanover October 17

The Gettysburg Symphony Orchestra directed by Dr William Sebastian Hart will perform in Hanover on Thursday October 17 under the Hanover YWCA sponsorship. The 90 member ensemble, with 45 locals, continues a nine summer open air series in Baltimore metro area funded by Equitable Trust Company drawing about 4000 attendees. A recording on a two side LP will be issued and given to donors of five dollars or more.

Man Fined for Dumping Garbage in Adams County

Rodney T. Wagaman, 34, of 239 Ridge Ave MecSherrystown, paid a 25 dollar fine and costs after pleading guilty to dumping a panel truck load of garbage on James Anthony’s property Littlestown R2. He was jailed briefly in default of payment.

County Convention Date Set for December 1

Paper Drive Planned by Scout Troop 85 in New Oxford

Boy Scout Troop 85 of New Oxford conducts a paper drive Saturday weather permitting starting early morning. Residents should place bundles on porches or curbs for pickup and outlying areas should notify Scoutmaster Robert L. Donohue. Five Countians Enroll in Citizenship Short Course in D C

Five Adams County H Clubs youths attend the Citizenship Short Course at the National 4H Center in Washington D C this week. Participants come from Pennsylvania New York Tennessee Vermont and Delaware. The week covers federal government operations with mornings on government topics and talks by national officials. Afternoon visits to Congress and federal departments and evenings with foreign representatives accompany committee assignments for all five youths.

Hanover Faces Water Crisis Measures Banned Air Conditioners

The Hanover Municipal Water Works Commission ordered a prohibition on water use in all water consuming air conditioning systems in Hanover, McSherrystown, Penn and Conewago Townships and surrounding areas. Exceptions exist for approved recirculating devices and non water consuming units. Violations incur penalties equal to prior water restriction penalties. Earlier bans included lawns, pools, vehicles, and porches spraying.

Constable Cleared After Extortion Case Appeal

York County Judge Robert I. Shadle orders not guilty verdict for former Spring Grove Constable Clair L. Bollinger after disagreeing with District Attorney Shoemaker on retry. Bollinger previously faced five counts of extortion and false pretense, was sentenced to three months and $750, but the State Superior Court overturned the conviction and ordered a new trial. Shoemaker states another trial would be lengthy and costly. Bollinger once ran an office on York Street Gettysburg.

Six Adams County girls chosen for regional dress revue

Six girls from Adams County were selected to represent at the south central regional dress revue at Greenwood High School in Millerstown. They earned blue or red ribbons at the county 4 H roundup and will have their outfits and extensive 4 H records judged at the regional event. The regional winner advances to state eliminations August 29 at Penn State and the state winner receives a trip to the National 4 H Club Congress in Chicago in December.

Hostel group tours through New Oxford after Gettysburg visit

Nineteen members of the San Diego American Youth Hostels cycled through New Oxford after touring the Gettysburg Battlefield. The group began July 1, plans 25 days of bus travel and 35 days by bike over 18 000 miles, returning August 31 after visits from Salt Lake City to New England.

Stock resigns from council appoints Edwards to serve

Oil and Stone New Oxford borough councilman Lloyd Stock resigns at a special meeting amid oil and stone bids. Charles Edwards, 3 Sunset Ave, is named to fill the remainder of the term. Stock cites conflict with employment and has missed five meetings. Edwards also runs for council in Navermicher. Stock’s term ends year end. he is not seeking re election.

Mountain Fair Set for September at Gettysburg Area

The South Mountain Fair marking its 40th season will run September 3 to 7 near Arendtsville nine miles north of Gettysburg. Highlights include the McKinly Rodeo and Wild West Show from Farmer City Illinois, horse and livestock events, 4H contests, and $3500 in prizes. The fair seeks to burn its mortgage at a public ceremony after years of debt repayment.
