Coal miners and steelworkers clash over mine entrance restraining order

District Judge Joseph Rich hears a labor dispute between Gallup coal mine strikers and Pittsburgh and Midway Coal Mining Co over picket lines near the North Mine entrance. Zuni receives grant to fight domestic violence

Zuni Pueblo has won a 353187 federal grant from the Justice Department to combat domestic violence. The funding supports training for police and court staff, new positions at the New Beginning Shelter, and a prosecutor dedicated to domestic violence cases. The grant also funds shelter renovations and staff for children.

Gallup woman named Highway Hero for life-saving I-40 incident

Danielle Collom, an office manager with New Mexico State Highway Department in Gallup, will be honored as a Highway Hero for May 12 actions on I-40 near Milan. She stopped after seeing a driver slumped over and a hitchhiker flagging for help, radioed for aid, and waited with the driver until responders arrived. Clarence Smith of Ontario, Canada, suffered a brain aneurysm and is recovering. Collom credited her Gallup crew and says she may be the first woman to receive the NMDOT honor.
