A Saturday afternoon altercation outside a laundromat on Route 66 left two intoxicated men arguing then one shoved through a glass window. The impact sprayed shards onto chairs and machines while restroom cleaning prevented injuries. one man sustained facial and hand cuts before fleeing.
Steven William Turner, 29, of Show Low, was arrested June 2 by Navajo County Sheriff's Office on wildland burning and endangerment charges for allegedly starting fires east of Little Mormon Lake near Silver Lakes. He reportedly admitted causing the blazes claiming it was his duty to God as winds reached 33 mph under red flag fire conditions. Turner was jailed after questioning and is on probation for prior assault and drug charges.
Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly met for over an hour with five Siberian indigenous leaders from Kamchatka, Chukotka and Yakutia, Russia, in Albuquerque last week to share experiences and discuss protecting sacred sites and natural resources. Coordinated by Gordon Bronitsky of Bronitsky and Associates with Suzi Bald win, the visit was facilitated for mutual cultural and environmental learning.
Gallup New Mexico. McKinley County School District discarded about five thousand dollars worth of food from its warehouse after a surprise inspection by state health officials found items past expiration. Superintendent Ray Arsenault said the action was partly planned and noted this is the third time in a year the district had to destroy food. Two months earlier more than three hundred seventy thousand dollars worth of food was destroyed due to refrigerator failures.
Adrian Miles, 21, is charged with killing Sheila Sunshine Kipp, 43, who was found beaten at the Ambassador Motel on Sept 8 and died two days later at UNM Hospital. Miles is free on a 100000 dollar surety bond. His state-appointed attorney Lelia Hood seeks a trial continuance and waivers the speedy trial right. a sexual penetration charge was dropped.
