Grants Relay For Life event moved indoors over smoke
The 2011 Relay For Life in Grants was relocated from Grants High School track to the old high school gym on the south campus due to smoke from nearby fires. Organizers said the goal was $20,000. participants raised about $22,008.14 by night’s end with further fundraising planned. About 200 attendees joined games and pajama laps, with survivors, caregivers, and families present.

Local woman to be sentenced in Colleen Lincoln case
One of three young women charged in the Dec. 23 killing of Colleen Lincoln will be sentenced Tuesday in Judicial District Court Yazzie, the youngest of the trio, pleaded guilty March 7 to first degree murder under a plea agreement she will serve no more than 10 years in prison. Other charges are to be dismissed. Yazzie agreed to testify. Co defendants Pamela Davis and Larina Smith pleaded not guilty and await trial with Davis scheduled Aug. 2 and Smith awaiting a trial date.

Court rules Sloan removed from PACt after conviction
The state Supreme Court ruled former Public Regulation Commissioner Carol Sloan automatically forfeited her office when convicted of felonies in April 2010 for battery and burglary.
