Severe Thunderstorm Causes Fire and Damage in Lancaster Area
A Wednesday storm from the northwest drenched the county for about half an hour. Lightning struck the Leaman barn near Bridgeport, destroying it and injuring livestock. the Ninsley farm near Landisville also burned, with heavy losses anticipated. A Conestoga Traction substation near Mt. Joy sustained electrical damage, and residents including Jacob Musselman and daughter Ada were briefly knocked unconscious in a barn lightning strike.

At a banquet committee meeting last Friday the treasurer reported all bills paid and dues received, improving theAssociation’s finances after several years. A summer picnic and a moonlight auto ride are planned, with notices to follow. The society also aims to stage a high class musical comedy this fall and is casting lines for a top entertainment.

Mr and Mrs Clayton A Seldomridge hosted a Sunday reception for newlyweds Mr and Mrs Willis Seldomridge at their Jackson Street home. About thirty guests attended including Amos and Frank Showalter, Edwin Coldren, D T Rife and families, M L Hammond and family, Percy Kurtz and Green Bank residents. Red Cross Meeting Boosts Drive and Volunteer Work
Local Red Cross branch reports progress in membership and weekly work. Volunteers rolled bandages and prepared gauze coats, with more sewing and knitting materials to come. Fatal Farm Accident Claims Aaron Shue in Lititz
Aaron Shue aged sixty two of Lititz died at St. Josephs Hospital after a farm accident on Tuesday near Lititz. While riding a horse on the Clayton Brubaker farm his horse frightened and threw him. His foot snagged a trace chain and he was dragged across the field resulting in a fractured skull and severe injuries. He was unconscious when found.

Captain Thomas Whitson a longtime Lancaster lawyer and Republican political figure died at his Christiana home on Tuesday evening after a year of illness. He served in the Civil War and raised Company L, Fourth Pennsylvania Volunteers at the Spanish American War. Survived by two daughters Hannah and Jennie Dower.
