The Nativity story will be sung and told through stories in church programs starting Sunday morning December 21. Sunday Schools lead most events with rehearsals under way. Auditoriums are decorated to fit the season and welcomes are extended to all to attend these exercises. A nearly complete schedule follows.
A Christmas Eve service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church at 11:00. Organ prelude by Helen Mentzer, processional hymn Joy to the World, Psalm led by Marian Mohler, vocal duet Maria Bender and Florence Brimmer, xylophone solo Pauline Eschenshade, instrumental trio Charles Relfsnyder Clyde Kauffman Weaver Hagey, carols including Hark the Herald Angels Sing and Adeste Fideles, Christmas story Evelyn Roseboro, vocal solo by W. M. Mearly, instrumental duet Catherine Sheaf fer Pauline Esbenshade, and Doxology with recessional O Little Town of Bethlehem.
The Sunday School of the Methodist Church presents a Christmas service on Sunday evening December 21 at 7 30 pm featuring songs recitations and exercises. Performers include Hefen Yuninger Melvin and George Ludwig Dorothy Mentzer Donald Hamill Louise Ludwig Helen Hamill Eugene Hamill Paul Reese Iva Yost Pauline Yuninger and others with titles such as The Lord of All A Dearer Gift The Little Christmas Stranger Sleep Little Baby Jesus His Best He Shared The Beauty of His Star Holy Child Jesus and Over the Manger. Midnight Service to be held at St Stephen Reformed Church Wednesday night starting at 12 o clock. The service will feature old carols sung by the choir and a brief address by the church minister.
The Lions Club of New Holland votes to skip the meeting on Tuesday evening December 23 as members are busy with the holiday season. The next gathering will be January 13, when quarterly membership and luncheon dues are collected.
A shooting match to decide a choice lot of home raised turkeys and a large hog will be held at the Leola Restaurant on Saturday afternoon. Participants will use 12 gauge shotguns and shells will be sold.

Dora R Sprecher wife of Robert Sprecher of West Main street died at St Josephs hospital Lancaster Sunday morning at 7 of complications after six weeks illness aged 22 Survived by her husband parents Mr and Mrs Charles Helms Honey Brook two sisters Mrs Robert Christ Holm and Mary Helms also of Honey Brook She was a Honey Brook Methodist member Funeral services were held at 1 15 at her father in law William Sprecher home and at 2 at Honey Brook Methodist church with burial in St Stephen Reformed cemetery
Jacob B. Mellinger died Sunday at Good Samaritan Mennonite Home in the Welsh Mountains of infirmities aged 75. He formerly lived in New Holland and is survived by his wife Leah Eby and children Charles Gettysburg Roland Graffdale Edwin this borough, plus four siblings. Funeral held Wednesday at Esbenshade Funeral Parlor then Weaverdale Mennonite Church with interment in the cemetery.
Sixteen year old Miss Mary C Stoltzfus died at 10 30 am Monday at her mother's home near White Horse after a four weeks illness from heart trouble. She is survived by her mother two brothers Agron J Sara E and B John all at home. Services were held Wednesday at 9 am from the White Horse house and burial was in Millwood cemetery.
Robert Lloyd Kunkle nine month old son of Mr and Mrs Elmer R Kunkle of Leola died at home Wednesday morning at 2 after a week long pneumonia. Survived by parents six siblings Elizabeth wife of Leonard Miller Leola Albert D William H Ralph E Kathryn Hilsie at home and grandparents Mr and Mrs Harry E Kunkle Refton and Mrs Lydia Davis Nickel Mines. Services Friday afternoon at 1 private at home then 2 in Willow Street Mennonite Church interment in adjoining cemetery.

Members of the New Holland Rod and Gun Club planted eleven cans of catfish and sunfish along Conestoga Creek near the club cabin. The club has placed fourteen cans of fish in the Genestoga over the past year and received three cans of bream from federal hatcheries in August. Recent shipments included catfish 5 to 7 inches long and sunfish 1-2 to 2 inches. The club also received two crates of rabbits from the State Game Commission and released them on farms in Hart and West Earl Townships and near Narvon.

December 18 1880 issue notes New Holland population rose from 632 in 1830 to 1005 this year. Editorial honors J W Sandoe original editor of the Clarion who died at 31 in Strasburg. Marriages listed include Moses B Hoover to Salome Bear Reuben G Sensenig to Emma C Good Elias Stauffer to Sue W Martin J Frank Bidden to Annie E Kilian all of East Earl Township.
Local butcher shop West End Meat Market advertises quality meats at reasonable prices with a specialty in country sausage. Owner W. Reifsnyder listed as contact.
Trinity Lutheran in this borough voted to call Rev. Frank Ulrich of Audenried to the vacant pastorate after the resignation of Rev. R. L. Winters. The vestry confirmed the call, and Ulrich preached recently in the church. Winters and his wife are now studying at Hartford Seminary.

Legion Post 662 plans a Christmas Community Sing at the High School Auditorium on Wednesday December 24 at 8 pm. The program includes carols sung by the audience, a school chorus reading, a xylophone solo, orchestral selections, and a Santa Claus appearance with gifts for all.
The stores of New Holland will stay open every evening until Christmas to help shoppers finish gift lists. Each borough store displays extra fine merchandise and visitors are welcome.
The marriage of Donald Rodgers of Philadelphia, son of Mr and Mrs W B Rodgers of Gap, to C Miriam Hershey of Gap took place Saturday at eight in Richardson Memorial Presbyterian Church Philadelphia. Rev J Warren Kauffman officiated. Attendants were Charles Brown and Velma Handby of Philadelphia.
Solomon Stoltzfus and Sadie Stoltzfus from Gap and White Horse were married at the bride’s parents home by Bishop Gideon Stoltzfus. Attendants included Moses Stoltzfus and Annie Stoltzfus, with a reception for several hundred guests. The couple will live with the bride’s parents.
The United Brethren Choir conducted by Serena R Groff performs The Lord of Glory a Christmas Cantata by Geibel with words by William Gardiner. This two part work portrays Bethlehem prophecy and the nativity ending with He shall reign. Accompanist Anna Mary Brubaker. Performances Sunday in New Holland United Brethren Church at 3 PM and 7 30 PM at Strasburg Methodist Church.
The New Holland Leadership Training School will begin its next term on Monday evening January 15. Two courses are offered The Principles of Teaching at 1 30 and The New Testament at 8 30. Credits earned will count toward the International Leadership Training Diploma.
New Holland Troop of Boy Scouts entertained Girl Scouts at the Scout Cabin on Tuesday evening with games and contests. More than fifty members attended including Scoutmasters and troop committee members. A lunch of sauerkraut doggies and cake was served. No loving cup from John H Sensenig was awarded this year. a joint meeting in January will feature a contest for the cup between the two troops.
