New Holland Plans For Bigger and Better Farmers Day Exhibit

Local flyer Maurice Bowman, 19, was severely injured when a plane carrying him and pilot Bernard Woutersz crashed onto the roof of the former Central High School in Harrisburg during a veterans parade and bridge dedication. Bowman suffered a splintered arm and head lacerations. Woutersz sustained a broken cheekbone. Both were admitted to Harrisburg hospital. The crash occurred as guardsmen and veterans paraded near the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Bridge dedication.

Child Injured in Borough Auto Crash

The three year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Leon Bair sustained slight injuries when a Ford coupe driven by Mr Bair collided with Harvey A Martin’s car on the Square. Martin was westbound on Main street about to turn onto South Railroad avenue. Martins car stopped briefly before the impact. The Bair windshield shattered and the child received facial and neck injuries, treated by Dr P R Wentz before returning home with her parents.

Lions Club Meeting in New Holland Attendance Low

The Lions Club of New Holland met at the Boy Scout Cabin with low turnout due to rain and vacations. Paul F. Esbenshade spoke on state club activity programs, followed by Prof Grim of Kutztown State Teachers College delivering an inspiring address. Large turnout planned for Fourth Annual Farmers Day

New Holland Borough and surrounding townships will stage the Fourth Annual Farmers Day Celebration on October 9 to 11. A large meeting Monday night confirmed the dates and organizers announced expanded prize money and extra classes. Community groups, merchants, and schools plan indoor displays in spaces on North and South Roberts Avenue Franklin Street and South Railroad Avenue with a new premium list forthcoming. A follow up meeting is set for September 2 at the Farmers National Bank and Trust Company Building to finalize arrangements.

Local Legionnaires Attend Annual State Convention in Harrisburg

Four members of Conestoga Post No. 662 led by Wayne B. Ranch attended the state convention in Harrisburg along with Gilbert Overly Charles Mentzer and E O Beck.
