Beartown School First Reunion Held In August
The first reunion of Beartown School alumni took place August 12 on the school grounds. President Paul Sensenich led the meeting with officers elected: President Paul Sensenich R D 2 Narvon, Vice President Harry Gehman New Holland, Secretary-Treasurer Maude Evans New Holland. A next reunion was set for the second Saturday in August at the same location with all former attendees and teachers invited. A brief program featured poems recited by attendees.

Brilliant Fireworks Display to Feature Legion Festival
The American Legion fireworks and festival returns Saturday night with more booths than before and Redman staging another fireworks show. Gate prizes attract families including a modern refrigerator first prize and a World’s Fair trip to Chicago for five days. Children compete for a kiddy motor bike as part of final preparations by event committees.

The Woman's Christian Temperance Union met at Miss Alta M. Diller's home. Miss Pearl Wallace led worship and psalm reading. Plans were made for the county convention in Ephrata on August 30 and 31. Fair Competition Schedules Adopted by Local Merchants
In New Holland and Intercourse area a uniform opening and closing hours plan has been signed by about ninety percent of storekeepers. The schedule, proposed by Charles Diller and Paul Esbenshade, sets 7 a m to 6 or 9 p m on weekdays and 7 a m to 10 p m Saturdays with specific local variations. A county-wide drive for fair hours is being considered.

S. S. Class Enjoys All Day Woods Lesson and Picnic
The 9:15 Men’s Bible Class of St. Stephen Reformed Sunday School spent an all day outing at Longabaugh’s woods near Beartown. Members, wives, and children joined a Nature lesson by Dr. Ellis H. Metford followed by a picnic lunch. Women defeated the men in a softball game and various outdoor games kept everyone active.

Union Picnic Throng Enjoys Day in Woods
Hundreds attended the Seventeenth Annual Union Sunday School picnic at Overly's Grove for New Holland and vicinity. The Boys Band and Corn Cob College Club performed while groups shared food and contests and games highlighted the afternoon with winners such as Kutty Snader and Amos R. Good. The oldest guest was Civil War veteran C. R. Gehr aged 89 and the youngest Roy Palmer seven weeks. Boy Scouts provided a pool lifeguard.

Mrs Mary L Willard 92 widow of Albert Willard of 13 East Walnut Street Lancaster was found dead Monday evening at her home. Deputy coroner Dr J F Trexler ruled death from a cerebral hemorrhage. She was a longtime member of St Stephen Reformed church and survived by a brother and a sister both of Lancaster. Services were at the home of Harry Rutter Thursday at 2 p m with burial in the local Reformed cemetery.
