Burkhardt Named Executive Director of State Finance Committee
John J. Burkhardt Jr. 32 of Mechanicsburg will become executive director of the Republican State Finance Committee June 24. He has been special assistant to state Highways Secretary Robert G. Bartlett since 1967 and will succeed Elias G. Hawkins who will stay on in advisory capacity to Samuel A. Breene. Burkhardt, a Bethlehem native, graduated from Dartmouth College in 1959 and did graduate work at Lehigh University.

An eight year old Mahoningtown boy sustained a scraped elbow after being struck by a car at 4 10 pm yesterday at S Liberty and Lacock streets. Domenick Mingione of 104 S Lafayette St was not requiring medical attention per police. The driver Helen Arbutina 31 of Beaver Falls was moving slowly through heavy traffic north on S Liberty St when the boy walked into the car.

Car flips after collision on Aiken Road injures none
Michael D. Michalesko aged 18 of 316 Sumner Ave drove on Aiken Road toward Brow Hill crest when his vehicle skidded out of control struck the rear of a vat operated by Patricia Chill 30 of 925 Ruth Ave. The car overturned causing about 83 700 in damage. State police said no injuries.

Unrest Conference Planned With Local Leaders in Pa

Rats attack infant twins in High Point duplex
Two month old Dinetta and Anita Floyd were bitten in their bed by rats described as wharf type in a High Point North Carolina duplex. One girl suffered mutilation to her right foot and both infants were puncture wounded. Doctors warned the injuries could be treated with grafts if infection is avoided.

Flooding injunction granted in Lawrence County case
A preliminary injunction orders owners Paul Morrone and others to remove obstructions from a waterway near Ellwood Rd to stop flooding the city golf course and Society for Crippled Children and Adults properties. The suit, filed two weeks earlier by the Lawrence County Sanitation Authority and the city, alleges land filling by a contractor caused backing of water into a sewer line. Board Approves Three Year Union Contract For Custodians
The city school board approved a three year contract with Teamsters Local 261 granting custodians raises of 15 to 26 cents an hour over the term. Janitors and maintenance staff will receive 20 cent, 23 cent, and 26 cent increases across the three years, with corresponding raises for janitresses. New provisions include shift differentials, elimination of head custodians from union offices, extra vacation time, and severance up to 500 dollars. The district will study custodial insurance, address school pollution concerns, and pursue a gas fired boiler option if affordable.
