Mahoning adopts budget with no real estate tax hike
Mahoning Township supervisors approve a 2012 budget of 3.64 million dollars featuring a 3 percent raise for staff and plans to hire an extra part time officer. The sewer fund tops expenses at 2.25 million for sewer plant completion and line installation. The budget avoids tax increases thanks to 127 thousand dollars from a radio tower sale and 162 thousand from Marcellus Shale drilling receipts. The plan caps debt with a 59 thousand dollar 2012 dump truck loan payoff and foresees sewer connections with a 2,500 tap-in fee, grants, and loans to offset costs. The treatment plant should begin operation late winter, with notices to connect expected early next year.
