Blue Cross seeks hike in rates for 65 Special Plan
Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania filed with the Pennsylvania Insurance Department to raise the 65 Special Agreement monthly rate from 5.30 to 8.50 for about 263,000 subscribers starting Jan 1. President Howard W. Gindele cites rising Medicare Part A deductibles and coinsurance, growing case numbers, and prior losses as reasons. A subsidy of 2 million dollars is included for 1979, with open enrollment planned in February 1979 for nearly 15,000 pending applicants at the subsidized rate.
